Gwenetta Como Sands – Managing Partner

Gwenetta Sands leads Azores Systems, helping universities, accelerators and founders turn research into revenue. She brings more than 20 years of experience in university technology transfer, where she helped researchers move discoveries out of the lab and into licenses, startups and new programs.

As Director of Program Development in a university Technology Transfer Office, she founded new programs that linked research to real-world needs, including Innovating for National Security (I4NS). She co-authored a $929,000 U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant awarded to the university to launch the Talent Foundry program. She also created training for students, researchers and entrepreneurs, and mentored student interns and startup teams.

Before academia, she spent more than 10 years directing corporate communications and investor relations in the biotechnology industry. Today she also consults with universities on venture catalyst programs.
